running out of daylight

running out of daylight

it’s not that the night bothers me
I find comfort in the way the dark
wraps itself around lamps and
light bulbs like a custom fit suit
I love the deep expanse of the
night sky reminding me that
there will always be more
than I can see or comprehend

it’s that the days grow shorter
in the same season as the trees
let go of their leaves a prophetic
cascade of color and connection
or disconnection we won’t always
be here but we are here for now
we are here as the sun falls like
a leaf into the arms of the dark

Peace,
Milton
