The assignment for my kids yesterday was to write for ten minutes about the word “explore.” I did the assignment as well.

to explore

— to go where I
have not gone before —

is to follow the

                       footprints

                                mindprints

                                          heartprints
of others who
dreamed before me
and wandered off . . .

(wondered?)

. . . into their great unknown
only to see

                                       home fires
                                       already burning
                                       on the horizon
