it’s not your fault
a friend who grew up
in an abusive home
recalls a moment in
a mall store when
she was young
and her mother
was berating her
and a stranger
knelt down and
looked her in the eye
“this is not your fault”
she said and then
life went on
but the little girl
was not the same
she knew better
as holy week nears
and we make our
way to the cross
I have to fight
through the voices
telling me and you
that Jesus had to die
because of us
and I want to kneel
down and say
“this is not your fault”
the story is not
about our shame
guilt or payback
we belong to God
just as we are
Peace,
Milton
I have chills. Thanks, Milton.
Love this!
