saying goodbye

I’ve been quiet here for the last several days because we have been saying goodbye to my father-in-law, Reuben Brasher, who has been living with us for the last fourteen months as his Alzheimer’s made him disappear and who crossed over Wednesday afternoon.

We are in Birmingham with family and friends to bury him today.

He was a wonderful, loving man who left behind a legacy of kindness and grace and bad jokes. I loved him dearly and am grateful I got to be part of his family.

    Go in peace, Reuben.

    Peace,
    Milton

    1. I am so sorry for your loss.
I’ve identified with your poems/posts about him and the slow agonizing pain of watching the disappearance of someone you love and hold dear.
Placed my mother, who has dementia, on hospice yesterday. She disappeared some time ago.

      Godspeed Mr. Brasher.

    2. Hugs to all of you. The long goodbye of dementia is so sad, yet the moments that are etched in memory of my mother’s lengthy illness and death are those of humor, love, tenderness, sweetness, and the knowledge of God’s presence. Love you.

    3. Milton and Ginger,
Our thougths and prayers are with you and your family. May God hold you and your loved ones closer in these coming days, as he welcomes Rueben.
