road rules

People owe us what we imagine they will give us. We must forgive them this debt.
— Simone Weil

when the lanes drop
forcing us to merge
a simple errand trip
becomes a standoff
rather than the chance
to accept an invitation
to join the choreography
of cooperation

my stubbornness
will not save any time
nor move the line along
but I will have my place
what a shame
it would have been
to be forced to ride
one car further back

Peace,
Milton

  1. I wish I had read this before I ventured into Boston this morning for a doctor’s appointment. Might have saved me some teeth gnashing. Hi, Milton! Laurie
