love wins
This has been an important week in North Carolina, and our church has been at the center of things here in Durham. Here is a story that ran on our local NPR station, WUNC.
Peace,

The heat finally broke at our house this afternoon. About three-thirty, the wind started coming in off the water, the blinds on the east side of the house began to sway slightly letting in the cool air, and we all breathed a sigh of relief. According to the forecasters, the week ahead won’t see too…
We had our first winter storm of the year over the weekend, which meant we did not gather for in-person worship at my church this week. Instead, I recorded a “service” and uploaded it to our YouTube page—almost all of that an unseen consequence of the pandemic. The scripture for the week was the account…
I got home from the restaurant about 10:30 Saturday night, put on my pajamas and Ginger and I hunkered down for the storm. It’s now Monday morning and neither of us have left the house or changed out of our pajamas. Both our congregations cancelled services. We watched a couple of movies – Millions (highly…
When Ginger calls us to worship each Sunday, after the announcements, she says, Take a deep breath; now let it out.Breathe in the breath of God;breathe out the love of God. As we stood in the spring sunshine this morning, our palm leaves in hand, I could see the faces of people as they inhaled…
A couple of weeks ago, my brother left a message on my cell phone: “I just finished a book you have to read. You’ll love it. It’s called Blue Like Jazz.” Since recommending reading is not one of his usual things, I went and bought the book. He’s right. It’s good. I’m reading it slowly…
Ginger and I had time to meet for a cup of coffee in the middle of the day — unusual for a Thursday. When we sat down at Dunkin’ Donuts she asked, “So what do you get out of writing your blog?” She’s never one for superficial questions, even during coffee break. A couple of…
Beautiful!
And Congratulations to Nancy Ruth and Wynolia!
Congratulations to you all ! What a joyous occasion to celebrate a long fought battle — and 23 years of patience and love. Thinking of you always, Mary
God bless all of you — Nancy Ruth and Wynolia, the state of North Carolina, the United Church of Christ, Ginger and Milton, the members of your church! You give hope to us here in Kansas.
Good news! Joy to all.
I live in Greensboro and one of my friends posted an article on FB that mentioned your wife. Though we haven’t met, I was so proud for you!
Wonderful. loving news from the folks at Pilgrim Church-thanks to Milton and Ginger.
What joy! I remember this day last year here in NM when our associate pastor (UCC, of course!) went to City Hall to marry couples who were getting their licenses. I also remember another day in Boston over a decade ago when the first couples were getting married. Your strength and determination are an inspiration to us all, Ginger & Milton, to press for social change and love.
