Perspective

I feel small in the face of
overwhelming violence:
another killing, another
killing, another killing . . .
it’s as hard to be hopeful
as it is to be poetic.
How can our kindness
afford to be random when
the violence is intentional?
This can’t be the last word.

Peace,
Milton

  1. Your kindness is not random, and you must know, even if by faith, that your kindness changes the world, if only one person at a time. Violence is not the last word. I am going to sleep tonight, not thinking about the senseless violence, but about the kind spirit in my friend, Milton.

  2. What a great word. Just home from choir and listening to “Comfort Ye” from Messiah. Both pieces of poetry prove me comfort and hope tonight.

  3. Our choral anthem for Sunday at Covenant is ‘Come, Child of Peace’, which is right on point, I think. We are in a violent world that is longing for peace. We could use some of Isaiah’s messianic vision just now.
